The Insider’s Guide to Commissioning Week 2026: Tips, Schedule & You are Invited to a Waterfront Happy Hour

There is no time quite like Commissioning Week in Annapolis. The energy is electric, the town is dressed in its finest navy and white and the collective pride for the U.S. Naval Academy’s Class of 2026 is palpable.

Whether you are hosting family, celebrating a graduate, or just soaking up the Chesapeake Bay lifestyle, navigating this week requires a bit of hyper-local strategy. As an Annapolis native, I’ve rounded up the essential survival tips, the remaining official schedule, and an exclusive invitation to toast the market over a glass of wine this Thursday.

⚓ Katie’s Commissioning Week Pro-Tips

With thousands of visitors descending on our historic corridors, a little planning goes a long way:

  • Download "Prepare Me Annapolis": This local app is your lifeline for real-time traffic updates, bridge closures, and parking alerts.

  • Park & Shuttle: Skip the headache of looking for downtown street parking. Park at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and hop on the city's free magenta shuttle to get straight to the heart of the action.

  • Pedestrian Access: If you are heading into the Yard, remember that general public pedestrian access is open via Gates 1 and 8, but you must have a REAL ID-compliant identification for security screening.

🗓️ The Remaining Schedule of Events: May 21st – May 22nd

The early-week festivities and Blue Angels air shows may be wrapped up, but the most meaningful traditions are happening right now.

Thursday, May 21, 2026

  • 11:00 AM – Color Parade (Worden Field): One of the week's most breathtaking and historic visual traditions.

  • 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM – Happy Hour Open House at 5 Market Quay: See details below!

Friday, May 22, 2026 (Graduation Day)

  • 6:30 AM: Stadium gates open at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. (Expect heavy traffic along Rowe Blvd. and Taylor Ave. starting at 6:00 AM).

  • 10:00 AM – Class of 2026 Graduation Ceremony: The big moment featuring an address by General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

  • 10:04 AM – Graduation Fly-By: Keep your eyes on the skies over the stadium for one final, iconic fly-by!
